Social enterprises play a vital role to strengthen communities, advance social and environmental solutions, and contribute to Canada’s economy. Every day, their work creates jobs, sustains local economies, and tackles complex social and environmental challenges. Yet there has been limited national data that fully reflects the scale and value of what social enterprises do, until now.

Built for Impact, Ready for Market is a pivotal report revealing the data, stories, and recommendations emerging from the Canadian Social Enterprise Sector Survey conducted in early 2026.
This is the first national survey data on the sector in a decade, which captures insights from over 400 Canadian social enterprises across every province and territory.
Through data analysis, case studies, and sector spotlights, the report demonstrates that social enterprise is a critical driver of socio-economic resilience and innovation in Canada, and calls for a coordinated shift toward social procurement, tailored capacity building, and patient capital to unlock the sector’s full contribution to inclusive economic growth.

We respectfully acknowledge that we live, work, and learn on unceded, traditional, and ancestral lands of Indigenous and First Nations peoples. We invite you to consider what efforts we can all take to repair and improve our relations with Indigenous people locally and globally.
